She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.Proverbs 31:25
Although we see Discipleship touching the family core of Christian homes, there is much to be accomplished for the well-being of women in this nation. Spousal abuse is an accepted practice to keep women in line and ever submissive to the head of the house. Just recently I heard a women wailing on the road outside our compound only to discover the husband was caning his wife publicly with a large bamboo stick, chasing her back home because she had ran from a beating inside their house.
Husbands often believe their wives are happy in their marriage and have stated so to us but we learn in counseling there is much resentment and hatred in the depths of their hearts. Husbands think their wives are content because they don’t complain. The truth is they live in fear. Let me add that most of the women in our women’s prison class have taken their husbands lives and are unrepentant because of deep bitterness.
Our ministry to women is to first help them understand their husbands are victims themselves of ungodly cultural beliefs and there is help for both of them. When women understand their plight they are open to counsel and direction which leads to healing and restoration.
